buko green glaze recipe by banaue
|
so its time to shift gears and dig into the science of glaze making. i dont see it as a science, its more of like a chef baking with earth, in which each ingredient has its own special characteristic or taste.. then just adjust till you get it right. my glazes are getting old, and its time to come up with some fresh shades. still working on this crysal-like buko green recipe with controlled runs and pooling, but banaue keeps messing it up...

"squatters" kim mendoza 2007 oil on canvass, stoneware clay
|
from this painting inspired a lot of artworks to come, great ones, collaborated ones... a creation combining canvas, oil, stoneware clay, and glaze. its tricky bc you have to have the right balance of what shards go next to what, what colors bring out the clay, what colors focus the piece, i could go on... anyway, its a good start for great things to come. keep you posted on "the drawings of kim..." part 1

still going...
pottery is supposed to flow in a cycle.. mix the clay, age it, prepare it, work it, let it dry, fire, glaze, and refire.. and the we go back to the beginning. sometimes i mix clay, work, and do a glaze firing all in the same day.. the flow is kind of disrupted and thrown off course.. just for that day

slice of cheese
if you take a slice of clay and pretend its cheese, this is what you get.. hahaha, a big slice.. here we go: a cheese pot, swiss hole, a house, and the roof to go with it... the roof will provide a surface for the glaze to play on, running down the chutes and slides, breaking around blocks of cheeeese...

house under construction
|
yeah, i'm back...
for those of you who noticed that the site was under construction, it was actually my house. have been living on "the road" since january and havent been able to get back into the rhythm i had going in december. that was one hell of a run. so i stayed off the wheel to break the rhythm even more...
and out came this series, which will be titled
"a piece of this II..."
i've been experimenting with sculptural forms which evoke movement, flow, and grace... quickly formed, and slowly dried.
these pieces will be exhibited at Pinto Gallery in Antipolo on May 13- June 30.
