the rest of the firing, jumbled up on the floor. they all seem to blend into each other, no time to inspect them one by one.. will just wait until my next show and bring them all to life, each having its own spotlight.

open kiln
i ended my day by opening a kiln, many dissapointments, many surprises... the firing was a bit short and reduction was too light. i was trying to save gas and speed up the firing. next time i go for 16 hours

meltdown
we start this entry with failure.. a slab plate melted down in my last firing, turning the low fire clay body into a glaze like substance. this incident reminds me how important it is to be human... failing reminds us to be strong the next time around. i grow from this and learn from this experience. come back stronger with more determination. the smallest details need to be addressed or things like this happen.. thank you for this meltdown... this incident reminds me of "risk..." Pottery, like in life is full of risk. we learn to take good risks, to avoid bad ones.. from these experiences, we become better potters

boxes and plates and things
this tiny box stands as a foreground for one of the most powerful pieces in the philippines... the manunggul. without respecting the form, it has the power to stop a firing, crack a piece, blow out a flame, and even run a glaze. believe it or not.. i believe
the outcome of a 16 hour firing, too long!!
16 more hours, 16 more slumps.. i cut my firing down to 14 and a half hours. so i didnt reduce as heavy. to reduce or not to reduce, that is my question... well, tonight i go home and open my kiln, a 14 and a half hour firing with medium reduction. please please please!!!!!! i want some juicy pots... until the next time, shardman signing off ;)

large platters
large plates, large cracks!! one of my passions, to find a way to prevent cracking, warping, and collapsing of large plates. when you work with a plate of 24" in diameter, you're bound to have major problems.... any advice??
